The North College Hill City School District created a new High School and Middle School for 882 students adjacent to their existing buildings on a tight urban site. The phased construction involved two academic wings with a shared core of cafeterias, gymnasia, music rooms, library, tech classrooms and auditorium. The classrooms are optimized for side daylighting with high clear windows, exterior light shelves, sloped ceilings and light colored surfaces. The office spaces and a few interior classrooms have solar tracking skylights. The building connects to an existing auditorium, clock tower and community gym space. It serves as the hub for numerous community activities.

The North College Hill School District’s Middle School – High School Building was certified Platinum under the USGBC LEED for Schools 2007 rating system. It achieved 59 design and construction points based on six categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation and Design.
