MARIEMONT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

SFA Architects worked with the Mariemont Local School District by providing architectural and engineering services for various small construction projects for many years. A few of these projects include ongoing facility maintenance, modernization per ADA and building code compliance and equipment replacement. In 2008 SFA Architects was enlisted by the District to record and review the conditions of the aging school system facilities and to judge whether the schools empowered or discouraged the curriculum. Although many of the old schools were icons of the neighborhood, they were failing internally and causing tremendous stress to both the budgets and academic programs of the District. After formulating a strategic plan for facility improvement, the SFA team worked with all invested parties -- School Board members, Teachers, Staff, Students, neighbors, local business owners and local government officials -- to identify the needs of the community as a whole. It was decided by the community that several important and sentimental neighborhood schools should be renovated and other struggling schools would need to be replaced. Through a long and passionate public campaign led by SFA, the bond levy passed. The result was a long term facilities plan which included extensive renovations at two elementary schools, construction of a new junior high school building, and renovation of part of the existing high school building. All buildings were completed and dedicated in September of 2012.
