REI - Recreational Equipment Inc.
Norwood, Ohio

Recreational Equipment Inc., one of the nationís most revered outdoor gear retailers opened its first store in Ohio at Rookwood Commons in the fall of 2012. Popularly known as REI, the retailer offers the widest selection of camping, paddling and hiking equipment, road and mountain bicycles, running and fitness apparel, travel accessories and snow sports gear in the region.

PDT Architects, a subsidiary of SFA, worked with REI to design a 21,000 square-foot storefront for their 10-year lease. The space conjoined the former Anthropologie and current Coldwater Creek spaces. PDT raised part of the roof to add a 4,000 square-foot mezzanine along the back of the building for offices and storage. Coldwater Creek downsized into the former American Eagle storefront.

The facade of the new store showcases REIís signature navy blue corrugated metal, wood trellis and black-and-white square sign. Bike racks line the storeís sidewalk. In accordance with its mission, REI only uses environmentally friendly building materials and factors water management and energy efficiency in its store design.
